Dropshipping

Dropshipping means selling online products stocked and shipped by a supplier: you run the shop and the sale, the supplier provides the goods. 3,000 to 15,000 MAD to launch in Morocco.

Dropshipping appeals because of the promise of selling without stock. It is a genuine testing model, but not a money machine: margins are thin and advertising takes a large share of revenue. ## Test before investing Dropshipping is above all a way to validate demand. If the product works, the next step is often to move to stocked supply to reduce lead times and control quality. ## The product before the technique A shop can be set up in a week; the hard work is finding a product and a promise that convince. Failures rarely come from the site, often from the product or the advertising. ## Take responsibility The customer enters into a contract with you, not with the supplier. Returns, lead times and guarantees remain your problem, even if the supplier is abroad.

When this guide is for you

  • You want to test a product or a market without buying stock
  • You have limited resources to start and want to limit the risk if it fails
  • You already know how to create advertising on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok
  • You target simple, light, easy-to-ship products without having to build stock
  • You want to learn e-commerce before investing in a brand with stock

Step by step

  1. Choosing the niche and products — Look for products solving a clear problem, light, with sufficient margin and few returns. Avoid saturated products or those subject to legal restrictions.
  2. Shop and suppliers — Create a shop (Shopify, WooCommerce or a simple theme) and select reliable suppliers, with verified lead times, quality and return policy.
  3. Content and advertising — Create videos and visuals that show the problem and the solution, then test several ad angles on a small budget before scaling up.
  4. Logistics and customer service — Manage orders, lead times and returns transparently. A responsive customer service on WhatsApp or by email is often the key to positive reviews.
  5. Decision: scale up or stop — After 4 to 8 weeks, analyse acquisition cost and margin. If the product works, consider moving to warehouse stock to improve lead times and margin.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Launching without testing the actual product: supplier photos often hide poor quality
  • Ignoring acquisition cost: the shop looks profitable with few sales and a backlog of pending orders
  • Not checking restrictions, customs and lead times, which generates returns and negative reviews
  • Choosing saturated products because a competitor sells them well, without understanding their method
  • Not planning cash flow to pay for stock and advertising at the same time

Frequently asked questions

Does dropshipping still work in 2026?

Yes, but less easily than before. Margins are shrinking and advertising costs more. Success depends mainly on product quality, ad creative and customer service.

What budget to start?

Allow at least 10,000 to 20,000 MAD for the shop, a small test stock and a few weeks of advertising. Many start with less and quit too early, before having real data.

Is it legal in Morocco?

The activity is legal, but it involves declaring a commercial activity, invoicing and complying with product rules (standards, imports, guarantees). Forbidden products and health claims should be avoided.

Should you use a Chinese or a local supplier?

A local supplier reduces lead times and returns, but limits choice and margin. International suppliers offer more variety, with less predictable lead times and quality.

How long before knowing whether it works?

Generally 4 to 8 weeks of testing. If acquisition cost exceeds the margin for several weeks, you need to either change the product, change the angle, or stop.
